(from the left) Dr. Klaus Redecker and Dr. Rainer Hagel. Until his retirement in August 2002, Dr. K. Redecker was entrusted for almost 27 years with the management of the chemical laboratory in the Fürth location (Stadeln Works). Among other things, he supervised the development of the atoxic SINTOX primer composition and the infantry ammunition without cartridge case in caliber 4.73 x 33 mm for the G11 weapon system (Firma Heckler & Koch, Oberndorf).
Dr. R Hagel’s fields of activity were the development of high-temperature-resistant, polymer explosives, which ultimately lead to a usable HITP (High-Ignition-Temperature-Propellant) formulation for the manufacture of small-caliber ammunition without cartridge case. This development, in combination with the pertinent G11 weapon of Heckler & Koch, was successfully completed in 1989. Due to the new Polish circumstances, the introduction in September 1990 was blocked and this new infantry weapon system was no longer introduced in the German Federal Armed Forces.
A further field of activity was the search for heavy-metal-free and chemically stable oxidizing agents, as well as the development of new detonators. This research work ultimately lead to the successful introduction of the atoxic SINTOX primer for hand firearms.
